95 degrees and sunny is perfect gutting weather!!

Hi from Jen!

So today was our first "official" day of work. We decided to sign-up as a group to do "Gut 2" today as our project. Gutting includes taking out everything and then removing the dry wall, instalation, floors, ceilings, appliances, structures, ect.....It called for 10 people and there were exactly 10 of us so it worked out perfectly! Our leader was Paul and he was joined by 2 other NAAA americorps staff, andrea and megan. We headed out around 8am and arrived to our location around 8:30, unloaded the gear, got suited up and got to work!! Since we were dealing with a lot of mold, dust, etc....it was necessary to get suited up completely, including tyvek suit, work boots, hard hat, safety googles and a respirator.....all that and weather in the high 90's......good stuff right there.....I don't think any of us have ever sweated that much in our entire lives!!!

This is Chris now -

We also had a terrific night. We went out for dinner in the French Quarter and listened to some jazz on Frenchman Street. We made a couple of new friends - Gretchen and Janie from Chicago. We got our restaurant recommendation from a guy at a laudromat and he didn't let us down. We had shrimp, gumbo, fried chicken, blackened catfish, and bread pudding. Ooh la la! It was great. Then the jazz later at the Spotted Cat was also fun. Some 60-year-old sax player whowas hitting on all the women.
