Hello Iowa!

Friday, March 31st

It’s 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31st and we just crossed over the Iowa border into Missouri. A mix of John Prine, Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash is playing on the car stereo. Cindy and Tricia are fast asleep. Angie is reading a tabloid she picked up in an Iowa truck stop. And Jamie and Neil are in the front seats discussing the virtues of Q-Comp.

Spirits are up as we’re all excited to finally be heading down the road. It seems like we’ve been waiting and planning for a long time.

We left Oak Point around 2:15 this afternoon and have made only a few stops so far: one in Waterloo for supper at Panera; and the other in Ainsworth, IA (see note about Angie’s tabloid). We’re shooting for St. Louis and should be pulling in around midnight.

We have connected with Lynda Ott from Mission from Minnesota via Angie’s cell phone along the way. She and Dottie from Rochester are driving all night and will beat us to New Orleans. The connection was bad, and I couldn’t figure out Angie’s phone, so needless to say some of the details of the conversation were lost. What we do know is that three divorcees will be vying for the chance to dance with Jamie, our own resident certified Cajun dancer. Jamie is trying to convince us to drive straight through.

Tomorrow we’ll be N’awlins bound!
